31 Juli Hal Milton Talks More About 'The Agency''Games Radar' was Able to Catch Up with 'Sony Online Entertainment's' ('SOE'), 'The Agency', Hal Milton to Talk About the Much-Talked About MMOG for the PlayStation 3 and PC. In the Interview, Hal Milton Discusses Just How Massive the Title is, the Challenge in the Development Process and More.
So, we're Pretty Sure you're Just as Curious as we Are as to the Expanse of The Agencyy. After All, SOE Made Such a Big Fuss, Keeping it Under Wraps and an Even Bigger Hullabaloo in Unveiling it. Well, According to Milton, "the game world will support many, many people in a variety of public and private social and encounter areas". But of Course, Quantity is Not Necessarily the Only Thing Prioritized here, but Quality as Well. That's Why They've Incorporated That Speed Necessary in Making an Action Shooter Work Real. As to Why, They Choose the Cartoon-ish Style as Opposed to Going for the Realistic Visuals Route that Seems to Be All the Rave with the Technologies we Currently Have, Milton Explains that What They Really Wanted was to Take a Stylized Approach that Will Basically "create a world that was more fun and engaging than the real world we actually live in". He Further Probes, "It's far easier to sustain a stylized look over a long period than it is a detailed representative one". This Bit, We're Sure you're Gonna Get Excited About. Concerning Online Play, he Reveals That They are Working on Things Like Character Creation as Well as Progression Complexity, as Well as "remorse with [their] 'You are what you wear' system". Hmmm...Sounds Interesting, ahn ? And Then There's the 'Operatives' System, Wherein the Players are Given the Capacity to Keep in Touch with What's Going on at the Game Even When They're Not Logged in at Home. Now That's Really Something to Look Forward to. Anyway, We're Sure There Will Be More Nifty Tidbits to Come our Way to Give us a Clearer Picture of What's in Store for us with 'The Agency'. So Just Keep it here and We'll Be Sure to Bring you the Goods.

'Unreal Tournament 3' Lead Designer, Steve Polge, Dropped by the 'BU' Forums to Talk About the Recent Glut of 'UT 3' to Come Out of 'Comic-Con' Would Easily Run UT 3 at Max Details and That UT 3 Play-Testing was Being Done on 2.5 Year Old Rigs with Mid-Range 'GeForce 7800' Graphic Cards:
"A few comments: we're still working on player and pickup visibility - we're confident we've got a system that will address those issues well. We haven't fully implemented this system because we need to make sure all character skins and level lighting is finalized before we tweak it. We also have a very nice material based system for making it easy to pick out team colors on players and vehicles at any distance, where the red or blue is boosted based on distance. That way you get natural looking characters and vehicles up close, whose team is clearly distinguishable even at the furthest viewable distance.
Those machines are way overkill for the highest detail level - the only reason it wasn't turned on was because the option isn't exposed in the menus. We do all of our play testing on 2.5 year old systems with 7800s in them - that's our target medium detail (what you were seeing today) platform. Quad core doesn't help much for performance, but having a dual core machine is a big benefit. Stinger primary fire is still a hitscan minigun, although that build has some issues with the tracers feeling a touch laggy. Stinger alt-fire is not hitscan, however." Terrorists Planning Attacks Via 'Second Life'The Australian is Running an Article Which Looks at the Possibility That Terrorists are Using 'Second Life' as a Test Bed for Terrorist Attacks. Intelligence Agencies Across Australia and US are Reportedly so Concerned About This That, They Created Their Own Reality World Games to Gain 'the Same Experiences' as Virtual Terrorists. An Intelligence Analyst Remarked That Just as Companies such as 'Toyota' Test Their Products, Terrorists Can Do the Same in 'SL' Virtually to Access Vulnerabilities and the Potential Reaction to an Attack.
Quote:
""Just as real-life companies such as Toyota test their products in SL, so could terrorists construct virtual representations of targets they wish to attack in order to examine the potential target's vulnerabilities and reaction to attack", Jones says.
One of the most useful tools available is theability to transfer SL money between avatars, funds that can then be translated into real currency. Intelligence and law enforcement agencies in the US and Australia are so concerned they have established their own reality world games in a bid to gain the same experiences as the virtual terrorists. Community representatives are relied on to report suspicious or inappropriate behaviour to the owners or the SL authorities, just as in the real world." 'C|Net' News' Posted, About This:

UPDATE
The official 'Sony PlayStation' Blog, reported today that 'LAIR', originally scheduled to be released on August 14, has been delayed until September 4.
According to Ryan Hamlyn's post, an issue arose during QA testing regarding the game's various online features, including leaderboards and its medal systems. Hopefully, this delay ultimately means good things for LAIR since such an eagerly anticipated game should, ideally, be as polished as possible before release. But anyone interested in engaging in dragon warfare has to wait another month for Factor 5 to complete its upcoming title. We'll report back if any information changes.
'Eidos' : "PlayStation 3 Is Good Value But $100 Price Cut May Not Really Help"The CEO of Games Developer 'Eidos'Has Commented That he Believes the PlayStation 3 Offers Good Value for Money, Indicating That it Costs a Great Deal More to Purchase Either a 'HD' or 'Blu-Ray' Player. While he Commented that Additional People will Pick Up the Machine Due to its Blu-Ray Capabilities, he Admitted That the Price Needs to Be Cut Further in Order to Get Closer to the Mass Market.
Quote:
"According to Gardner, PlayStation 3 is good value considering it includes a Blu-Ray player at a relatively competitive price point.
"Go buy an HD or a Blu-Ray player. Go ahead. Tell me what it costs you. Then take a look at the PlayStation 3", he said. "I don’t think [PlayStation 3 is too expensive. I do think we’ll start to see additional people pick it up and use it, maybe not necessarily exclusively as a game player but as a Blu-Ray player and a game player, and there is an advantage to that."" "Just like ztn2dm3 in Quake 2, ztn3tourney1 resembles a chess match and smart players can really control the pace of the game to their liking. The Grenade Deck is probably the key position to control because it many of the spawns can be seen or heard from there and it also provides easy access to the Red Armor and Mega Health. Article: "The State Of Korea: PC Games"The Emerging South Korean Game Market is One of the Most Exciting Regional Markets - but it's Not All 'StarCraft' Binges and Korea-Based Journalist, Nick Rumas, Takes a Two-Part Look at the Market for 'GamaSutra', Starting with the Fascinating PC Games Scene in the Territory.
Rumas Notes in This Excerpt That While PC Gaming Has Been Embraced by the Region, the Retail Market for Such Games is Nearly Non-Existent:
“Even in Yongsan, the retail capital of Korean gaming, there are virtually no customers that come looking for new, legitimate PC games and as such, hardly any are sold.
Overall, it's a market that barely exists. Granted, every big box retailer -- Lotte Mart, E-Mart, Samsung Tesco HomePlus, etc. -- has a sizable PC games section, but there generally isn't a whole lot of action going on in it. There are two main factors that contribute to this. First of all, when it comes to new PC games sold at stores, the vast majority of those interested just download them illegally. In Korea, the consensus among the masses is that P2P downloading is a reality that must be accepted and can't be avoided. It's completely commonplace, and has been for years. Additionally, even if someone doesn't download a certain game personally, they can just as easily make the trek to Yongsan and buy a pirated copy of the title for a fraction of its retail price.” Interestingly, the Downloading of Pirated Software is Not Looked Down Upon in Korea as it is in the Western World:
“It's very much a 'topless woman at the French Riviera' scenario -- illegally downloading games in Korea is nothing if not completely and utterly normal, so much so that purchasing a game at full price can be seen as something of an oddball behavior. Where possible, the same applies to console games, but that's for another article.”

'CryTek' : "Crysis Could Be On XBox 360 And PlayStation 3" **UPDATE**[Like we've Been Saying for a Lot of Time, That was Only a Matter of Time and was Very Possible to Happen, Here's the Answer]
Speaking in the Latest Edition of 'PC Gamer', 'CryTek', CEO Cevat Yerli, Said that While 'Crysis' Wasn't Yet Planned for XBox 360 or PlayStation 3, “Theoretically, anything could run anywhere". [ahah, Are you Serious ? Of Course it is]
"Crysis could be on the 360 or PS3", he went on. “It requires optimization, that's what we've always communicated. What you would not do is make Crysis on PS3, 360 and PC for a single shipping date, because we would lose the quality focus. So I say, 'First PC version, then we'll see what happens'."
"...It's a matter of how far we can take each platform", he Added, Stressing that Crysis Would Not Be Made for a Console, Unless the Title Could Be Fully Optimized. While Yerli's Comments Hardly Amount to Any Solid Info, They'll Certainly Continue to Fuel the Rumor Mill and the Hopes of Console Gamers for the Time Being. And You Wanna Know, Why 'CryTek' is Saying This Today ? Very Easy to Understand...Crysis is a Very Demanding Game for the Casual Gamer, so, They Know that the PC Sales, Despite Having the Optimism that the Game Will Sale Good, it Will Not Be Any Successful Sales, because That is Impossible, the Majority of Gamers Doesn't Have High-End Pc's to Running it, Like they Want to Run it, in Full Specs...so, here's the Reason for CryTek Saying this at this Time and Where the Speech Also Changed in Relation to Their Game Being Possible to Run Very Good for the Next-Consoles...When They've Said it, Some Time Ago, That, That was Impossible of Happening. ;D Never Judge Anything by its First Looks, you Know What I Mean.
'CVG' has this Bit of Info, from 'CryTek' :
UPDATE
According to 'Electronic Arts' executives speaking during the company's latest analyst conference call, 'CryTek's' highly anticipated first-person shooter 'Crysis' has been delayed into the company's upcoming third fiscal quarter, which runs from October to December of this year. EA expects the game to release in early November.
Previously, Crysis was only officially confirmed as releasing in fiscal year 2008. Last month, various sources reported on a fact sheet claiming a September 14 ship date.
Executives also noted that EA Canada's 'FIFA '08' has been pushed back to the company's third fiscal quarter.
'C&C 3' Producer, Addresses Plot Inconsistencies'Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars', Isn't Exactly What Most People Would Call Great Literature. Nevertheless, as One of 'Electronic Arts' More Narrative-Driven Franchises, the Story is Something Fans Take Note of. '1UP' Shows as Well as Anyone, Fans Can Get a Bit Hardcore with Their Nitpicking -- so Can we.
Over on the Official 'C&C 3' Forums, Folks Have Been Critical Over Various Plot Inconsistencies in the Series. Command & Conquer 3 Exec Producer, Mike Verdu, Took a Timeout to Address the Concerns:
"We readily acknowledge that there are some inconsistencies in the fiction, and we agree that these need to be resolved over time. To some degree, these issues are a byproduct of something really good: The enduring nature of C&C. The world of the C&C Tiberium games is a wonderfully compelling place; the richness and complexity of that world is a result of many different creative contributors who have developed and extended the world for more than a decade (since the release of the original game). The community has even had a role in that process.
We tend to view these fiction problems in that context -- errors that have crept in as the universe has evolved, the result of a shared creative endeavor between multiple game teams and other creative contributors. Our vision of this amazing world continues to expand and evolve& a process that isn't going to stop any time soon. However, we do acknowledge the need to keep the canon as consistent as possible so we're all building on a sound foundation.
Bottom line: We admit there are discrepancies and we acknowledge that we need to address those issues over time. However, all that being said, our community forums are not the best place to fix these fictional differences over the long haul. Ultimately we have to understand what we need to address and then we'll tackle these topics in future installments of Tiberium game fiction, bringing the fiction into alignment over time."
Interestingly, Verdu Admits That Creating and Maintaining the Game's Fiction, is Similar to How They Handle Gameplay and Features -- Forum Complaints Raise a Flag That Causes Them to Go Back and Consider Certain Areas That May Need Changes or Tweaking in the Future. That Seems to Be a Fairly Unique Way of Creating a Story, Although it Might Compare Well to the World of Comic Books, Where Fan Complaints Run Rampant on Internet Forums, Often Answered by Writers, Artists, or Editors.
C&C3 Community Manager 'Apoc', Also Provides an Example of the Types of Inconsistencies, They're Receiving Complaints About in That Same Thread. One Popular Problematic Point is the Discovery of the "Tacitus", a Powerful Object of 'Command & Conquer' Lore. According to a Briefing in C&C 3 it was Found in 2028, but the Time Stamp of the Game in Which it was Found (the "Tiberian Sun" Expansion Pack, 'Firestorm') Sets it at 2030.
Seemingly Minor ? You Bet. Important to the True Fans ? Deadly so. We'll Wait and See Whether or Not the Guys at 'EA' Actually Take the Time to Patch Up Plot Holes That are so Unnoticeable to Most Players. Info Source @ '1UP' :
