First 'LAIR' Screenshots After Release + Hate 'LAIR's Motion Control ? Plug-In Another USB Gamepad **UPDATE**

The Much-Anticipated Videogame, 'LAIR' from 'Factor 5' has Finally Arrived and even a Couple of Days Earlier than Expected. The Confirmation came from Fans themselves, as some of them Received a Call from several Retail Stores Saying they Can already Pick up their Pre-Ordered Copies.

To Celebrate the Occasion, here are a Couple of New Screenshots courtesy of Gaming Site, 'IGN'. These Images, much Like the Ones we Shared with you before, Show off someof the Game's Aspects that has Endeared it to Fans even Prior to its Release. Tell us, who Can Ever Say "No" for a Chance to Ride a Fire-Breathing Dragon ?

Also, "Rohn" (the Name of your In-Game Character) can Take the Dragon to the Air and Wreck Havoc from there or even Let it Land on the Ground and Impose its Massive Physique on the Enemies. Of course, this is Easier Said than Done because of the Many Obstacles you will Meet in the Game, Not to Mention the Emerging Dangerous Volcanoes.

So there, LAIR is already Out in North America, so Better Grab a Copy Now. On the Other Hand, our Friends in Europe will Have to Wait until the Last Week of September to Get Hold of this Game. Check the After-Launch Released Shots for LAIR, here:

    ------------

From the Reviews out so far of 'LAIR', it is Clear that the 'SIXAXIS' Isn't Working particularly Well to Support the Game. However, some Gamers Think they Have a 'Quick Fix' Solution and it Involves simly Plugging-in something Like a 'SEGA' Saturn USB Gamepad. The Controls Don't All of a Sudden become Perfect but, Things Come a little Better as LAIR will Not Utilize Motion Sensing Capabilities as they are Absent on a Regular USB Controller.

"Want to know just how close we were to getting actual, non-frustrating, Analog Stick control in LAIR ? All you have to do is plug any USB control pad that doesn't have SIXAXIS motion control capability into the PlayStation 3, and Lair will use the analog sticks. Or, in my case, the D-pad off of this old knockoff SEGA Saturn USB pad I had lying around.

I don't want to suggest that somehow the control magically becomes perfect. It doesn't. But the difference is palpable. I pulled up that infamous first bridge level, and suddenly I was actually able to make the dragon go where he ought to. I can't imagine why this functionality isn't an option. I don't know if it's possible to play through the entire game like this. Certainly some key button features, like lock-on and rage mode, weren't mapped to the buttons on my pad.

I wonder why exactly this was left in the code. Did they not think that someone would plug in a USB pad, just to see what happened ? Had this functionality actually been standardized in LAIR, I doubt that people would have so many issues. It's still got massive flaws but this didn't have to be one of them."

'StarCraft 2' Update: "Terran Thor" Revealed

For the Lack of a Heavy-Powered Alternative, it Seems that the "Terran" Forces Wanted more Siege Power than "Siege Tanks" could Offer. From the Hopes of Making a Land-Based Powerhouse comparable to Battleships comes the "Thor" - 'StarCraft II' New Devastating Unit for the "Terran" Race.

Behind its Neosteel Armor Plating, Industrial-Strength Electromagnetic Discharges that can Cause Seismic Shocks, 2 Giant Particle Beams and a Dorsal Artillery Battery is a Story of Betrayal. The "Terran Dominion" Tried to Hide this Beast from "Agents" of the "Umojan Protectorate" and their Fellow Humans weren't Very Happy about it.

It's Hard to Fathom how Development of such Massive War Machine was Kept Hidden for Years since the 'Brood War', so let's just Say it was More than a Game of Cat and Mouse. "Umojan" Spies struggled to Unveil the Mysterious Weapon before a Female Operative named "Ulli Trey" Got to the Bottom of Things. Her Risky Infiltration unearthed "Project Thor".

"Thor" can be Built by "SCV's", Making it a Valid Option Despite its Slow Moving Speed. Armed with Particle Accelerators called "Thor's Hammer" and an Overwhelming 250mm Bombardment Cannon, Facing One of these Super Mechs can Spell Doom. Even with Hard Counters that 'Blizzard's', StarCraft II will Provide, a Solid Strategy will be Necessary to Take a Single "Thor" Down.

'PES 2008' Puts You In The Game - Use 'XBox Camera' / 'PS Eye' For Those Scanned Faces !

A New Preview by 'GameSpot' Notes that 'Pro Evolution Soccer 2008' Features a Much Better 'Master League' Mode than what was Included in the XBox 360 Version Last Year. Further to this, the 'XBox Camera' Allows Players to Create their Own Custom Players via Uploading their Face and the Face Mapping Tool allows Scanned Faces to be Full of Realism with a Range of Expressions.

    Quote:

"The XBox Camera can also be used to add your own face (or your friends) to player created characters. Pro Evo's face mapping tool is one of the best we've seen on a console game, resulting in players which look eerily similar to their real-life counterparts. Once in the game, the scanned faces are endowed with some nice movements, such as mouths opening in excitement after goals. Pro Evo 08 allows you to max out your created characters' skills right from the word go, although higher skills obviously translate into a higher value when you want to put your player into your own created Master League team.

We know plenty of Pro Evo fanatics out there, and we're sure that the added customisation features set to ship with Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 will be something they'll readily latch onto. Check out GameSpot for more previews and a full review of Pro Evo 08 soon."

'Unreal Tournament 3' Hands-On By 'GGL'

For Months we've Drooled over 'Unreal Tournament 3's' Excellent Graphics, but until Now there has Been Very Little Feedback on Gameplay. In One of the 1st 'UT 3' Hands-on Reviews, 'Carmac' from 'GGL', Gives a Shocking but maybe Predictable Review of UT 3. The Mini-Review Titled, "UT 3 ? Save your Money for Team Fortress 2", Leaves Little to the Imagination for the Conclusion.

After 'Quake's' Attempted Mainstream Sellout and Failure, you'd Think that other FPS Devs would Have Learnt a Lesson. However it Seems 'Epic Games', probably Influenced by Restrictive Console Controls and 'Halo'/ 'Gears of War' Dominance, is Continuing the Trend of Dumbing Down Gameplay to reach a Wider Audience. Taking the 'Common People want Average Things' Route.

PRESS RELEASE: 'Fatal Inertia' Reaches GOLD Status

Here's the PRESS RELEASE INFO for 'Fatal Inertia' GOLD Status:

"Burlingame, CA -- August 31, 2007 -- KOEI, recognized worldwide as the premier brand of strategy and action games, announced today that Fatal Inertia has reached gold status and will be available at retailers throughout North America beginning the week of September 11, 2007, for the XBox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

When Fatal Inertia ships, the game will include 8-player racing on XBox LIVE or on System Link, over 1.3 million race craft customization combinations plus 15,000 performance combinations, 51 courses across 6 distinct racing environments, and 50 XBox Achievements.

A free demo of Fatal Inertia is available now exclusively on XBox LIVE Marketplace. The demo offers single player and split-screen two-player “Combat races” as well as high-speed “Velocity races” from the game’s Exhibition and Elite racing leagues.

    About Fatal Inertia

In the middle of the 22nd century mankind’s thirst for excitement has spawned an evolutionary sporting event that draws from the combined disciplines of rally racing, demolition derby and high-performance aeronautics. In this brave new world of combat racing, gravity-defying machines are no longer confined to the speedways and stadiums of centuries past. In this grand spectacle of racing, the amphitheatre where drivers must prove their superiority is the untamed wilderness.

Through harsh environments spanning dense rainforests to immense glacier fields, and canyons of razor-sharp rock there is little room for error as drivers will reach speeds of over 500 mph. But Fatal Inertia is not merely a test of speed. The brave men and women who choose to compete must face the mental and physical punishment of low-altitude combat maneuvering.

In Fatal Inertia each craft will be armed with a unique array of unconventional weapons that manipulate velocity, force and even time. Explosive magnets that impact race craft stability and rockets that can counter thrust and velocity are just some of the dangers drivers must face. But with each race craft hovering just a few feet from the earth, any misguided attempts to evade or dislodge these weapons can result in total (if not fatal) disaster.

Fatal Inertia is the debut title from KOEI’s Toronto-based development studio, KOEI CANADA. The team is led by Producer Takazumi Tomoike, creator of the Dynasty Warriors series, and KOEI Co-Founder and Chief Advisor Yoichi Erikawa, who under the pen name Kou Shibusawa is regarded as one of the world’s top video game designers.

Powered by the award-winning Unreal Engine 3 from Epic Games, Fatal Inertia boasts fast-paced single and online multiplayer experiences, sixteen racing series, six distinct racing environments, plus full race craft customization. Fatal Inertia delivers a glimpse into the future of racing in stunning 720p HDTV and in game Dolby Digital audio. This game is rated “E10+” (Everyone 10 and older - Fantasy Violence) by the ESRB. New 'Far Cry 2' Interview **UPDATE**

'Joystiq' has Had the Chance to Sit Down with Clint Hocking the Creative Director at 'Ubisoft' Montreal, whom is Best Known for his Innovative Work on the 'Splinter Cell' Series. They Discuss about the 'Far Cry' Brand, the Possibility of Console Ports, 'Crysis' and much More.

    Quote:

"You've been talking about a strong single-player experience. Will there be a multiplayer experience ?

Talking about multiplayer is sort of later in the communications plan. What I will say briefly about multiplayer is that the same way we're trying to revolutionize the first-person shooter and trying to make a game that's immersive and realistic and really has a strong sense of place. We're trying to do the same kinds of things in multiplayer so it's not just taking out all of the slow animations, putting in some flags and there you go. That's not what we're going to do, but you'll have to wait to find out more."

New 'Fallout 3' Interview + Another One

'Action Trip' Chats with Gavin Carter, Lead Producer at 'Bethesda Softworks', to Learn more about 'Fallout 3'. Gavin Talks about a Lot of Interesting Topics, Including the Game's Combat System, Character Customization, Quests, NPC's and how the Highly-Anticipated Project is Coming along Overall.

Here's a Snip from their Interview:

"AT: As we understand, the team is also keeping itself busy with balancing combat in the game. If you can, please tell us about the advantages of V.A.T.S. Do you think hardcore RPG fans will enjoy the cinematic aspect of it ?

GC: A big advantage is that during VATS mode, time is paused and you're given a wealth of information about your situation. Every targetable enemy and object is highlighted and you can pan around and get a sense for where things are coming from. For each individual target, you can see their overall health, and the condition and the likelihood of landing a shot for each body part. This is the part that I feel separates VATS from standard "real-time with pause" systems in that it gives you information to base a tactical choice on. You may find that you have a high chance to hit a mutant's torso, but then you notice that landing one more risky shot to the arm will cripple him, severely reducing his ability to aim. Recently I've been replaying Oblivion and find myself hammering the VATS button unconsciously whenever I get jumped by an enemy.

The other advantage to VATS is, of course, that it's just pure unadulterated fun. Landing a shot to a mutant's head, watching it fly apart in slow-motion, having an eyeball go spinning past the camera - there's just some kind of visceral satisfaction that the experience brings."

There's also Another 'Fallout 3' Interview on 'No Mutants Allowed', where they Go Post-Nuclear on 'Bethesda's', Pete Hines.

    Quote:

"NMA: Will you be able to finish the game without killing anyone ?

Pete Hines: We don't know yet. We're trying to make it so that you have options to use stealth or dialogue. The lead designer of Fallout 3 is Emil Pagiarulo, who worked on the Dark Brotherhood questline in Oblivion and on the Thief games. He has a lot of experience with using stealth to solve problems. But obviously, when you're talking about supermutants, dialogue really isn't a viable option. So I can't really say whether or not you can finish the game without killing anyone, but implementing alternative paths is very important for us."

As the Title says, 'Ubisoft' has Now Cancelled the Plans for a XBox 360 and PC Version of 'Haze' :

"Originally, Haze was slated as a multiplatform release for the PC, XBox 360, and PlayStation 3 in spring, but back in May Ubisoft announced that the PS3 had become the "lead platform" for the title, which would be released in November on the PlayStation 3-only, although "no exclusivity for any platform has been officially announced".

Two 'IBM' Discoveries Add Promise For Nano-Computing

Scientists at 'IBM' said on Thursday that they Had Moved Closer to Developing Ultra-Tiny Storage Devices (imagine 30,000 Full-Length Movies on an 'iPod') by Learning how to Steer Single Atoms in a way that could Create Building Blocks for such Hard Drives. Understanding and Manipulating the Behavior of Atoms is Critical to Harnessing the Power of Nanotechnology, which Deals with Particles Tens of Thousands of Times Smaller than the Width of a Human Hair: "One of the most basic properties that every atom has is that it behaves like a little magnet", said Cyrus Hirjibehedin, a Scientist at 'International Business Machines Corp.'s' Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California, in a Phone Interview. "If you can keep that magnetic orientation stable over time, then you can use that to store information. That is how your hard drive works. What we are trying to understand is how this fundamental property works for a single atom." Hirjibehedin and Colleague, Andreas Heinrich, Studied this Property — known as Magnetic Anisotropy — in Individual Iron Atoms using a Special Microscope developed at IBM.

48% More Performance For 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl' With 'nVIDIA' Forceware v163.44 Drivers + New 'Vista' Patch Reduces System Crashes

As per a Recent Article at 'Computer Base' Staff, the Californian Graphics forge, 'nVIDIA', Released the New nVIDIA Forceware v163.44 Drivers, which, specifically with nVIDIA 'Geforce 8500 GT', 'Geforce 8600 GT' & 'GeForce 8800 GTS' 320 MB Cards, Improves Performance by Up to 48% in S.T.A.L.K.E.R..

The Problem is a so-Called 'VRAM' Bug, Concerning All nVIDIA Cards of the 'GeForce 8' Series, more precisely, it's Caused by Programming Errors in the Memory Management. Hence it Reduces Performance with said Cards and Prevents them from Unfolding their Full Potential - Due to the Massive Amount of VRAM of the '8800 GTS 640' / '800 GTX' / '8800 GTX Ultra'; these Cards are Not Affected, because the Memory is by Far Not Stressed as Much as with the other Mentioned Cards.

Although, with Forceware v163.44, the VRAM Bug could Not be Fixed Completely, its Effects could be Reduced. Therefore, further Performance Boosts can be Expected with Future Driver Releases.

'PC Games Hardware' has Been Testing the Driver and Sums up their Test Results:

"By now, we can recommend the newest driver to all nVIDIA users, after seeing the test results. With the GeForce 7 series, the Forceware v163.44 driver is slightly faster than the previous versions and does not introduce any new problems. With the GeForce 8800 GTS/320 however, the results could be easily called a performance explosion. The new driver increases the card's performance by no less than 48 percent, compared to the Forceware 162.18 drivers (under Windows XP). In the case of Windows Vista x64, it's still 25 percent, with 32 bit it's only 13 percent."

If you are Using 'Windows Vista' and Cannot Enjoy 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl', because it is Crashing Constantly, you are Not Alone. Many New Threads about Crashes and System Freezes Appear in our Technical Forums every Week.

'Microsoft' Released a Patch for Windows Vista 32-Bit on the recently Arranged 'Patch Day', which Aims to Improve Compatibility with 3D Games and Reduce System Crashes. Especially S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is said to Benefit from the Hotfix and the Number of Crashes should be Greatly Decreased. As per 'Heise' (a Deutshland Website), similar to the Forceware Driver which was Released Yesterday, the Memory Management is the Problem, but in this Case it's only Concerning Vista 32-Bit.

With 'Windows XP', All Programs Manage the Used Memory Themselves, whereas under Vista the Used Memory is Managed by the Video Memory Manager and, Due to a Programming Error, this can Cause Reduced Performance or even Crashes.

    Quote by 'Heise' Staff:

"The reason for the error is the altered memory management of Vista, compared to Windows XP. 3D applications periodically copy the video memory content of the graphics card to the virtual memory of the system. By this, the video content of the program is preserved, if you alt+tab to another application and switch back again for example. Up to Windows XP, all programs manage this on their own, with Vista, this function is taken over by the video memory manager. To maintain compatibility, 3D applications are still able to manage copies by themselves."

"On a 32 bit system, 3D games which are addressing a big amount of memory, can cause the 2GB address space to overflow, because of the two video memory copies. A considerable decrease in performance or a crash of the application is the consequence. After applying the patch, the video memory manager of Vista checks if a copy was made by the application. If this is the case, it does not reserve memory for a system-side copy."

Superstar Golfer, Tiger Woods Talks About Games Violence And Their Effects On Children

A Gaming Website recently Held an Interview with Superstar Golfer, Tiger Woods. One of the Questions they Asked was, What is Opinion was on Violent Games in Respect to the Youth of Today and where Responsibility Lies to Make Sure Children don't Get their Hands on Them ? Tiger Responded by Saying that Ultimately it is the Parent's or Guardian's Responsibility to Act as a Gatekeeper, Children will Potentially get Exposed to a Lot of Things in the World, but Responsibility Comes Down to the Parent's to Raise them Correctly.

Well said Mr. Woods, maybe I'll Ask to Repeat yourself on that Answer the Same Way to those Anti-Game-Based Websites out there, for them to Just Open their Eyes and Understand the Bad Things they Say against Games in General.

Here's a Quote from this Interview with Woods:

"What is your opinion on violent games and their effect on the youth, and who do you think is responsible for keeping them out of their hands ?

That's the parent's responsibility, or guardian. What goes on in the household, that's their responsibility. That is your child that you're looking after. Obviously, they're going to get exposed to a lot of things just being out in society, but at home, I think it's your duty to raise them the right way."

'Ubisoft' : "Gaming Industry To Be Twice As Big As Music In 2011"

There can be No Doubt that Gaming of Today is constantly Reaching New Audiences but Many will still Consider it Something of a Niche in Comparison to Something like the Music Industry. However, 'Ubisoft' CEO, Yves Cuillemot, Expects the Strong Growth of the Games Industry to Continue with a 50% Increase in Revenue over the Next 4 Years which if it Happens will Mean Gaming is Bigger than Music and Box Office Revenues.

    Quote:

"Hence our ears perked up when Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said last week that the video game market was poised for massive growth — a 50 percent increase over the next four years. Assuming that Guillemot isn't simply blowing fumée about his industry's growth potential (always a possibility at these kind of events), video games will soon run eclipse both box office revenues and recorded music revenues. That a lot of copies of Halo to move; is gaming really ready to get this big ? Let's run the numbers."

'Ars Technica' has the Details on this:
