30 September New 'Unreal Tournament 3' Previews AvailableThe Guys at '1UP' Caught up with 'Epic Games', Mark Rein and Jeff Morris and Talk about Nazis, Naked Ladies and 'Unreal Tournament 3' :
"Emblazoned with swastika, SS insignia and other National Socialist German Workers Party trappings, Dreamer61's Mercedes epitomizes questionable user-created content. And Unreal Tournament 3, which allows PlayStation 3 players to import maps and mods made on PC, must answer the question the car provokes, too: How much freedom is too much freedom ? "You're free to create what you want, to express your artistic vision", he says and laughs. "Lots of museums have pictures of naked ladies....""
"They don't have the Hitler hoopdie, do they ?" "No, they don't. But you know what ? They could. If that had been a real car, painted up like that and it was a historical thing that illustrated how terrible the Nazis were...that's the beauty of free speech." Meanwhile 'Kotaku' Took a Break from Mario Cakes to Play some 'UT 3' Deathmatch themselves, Posting a Hands-on Preview Based on their Experiences:
"The FPS genre has slowed down in the past few years, literally. Games like Halo may be fun, but they don't have that crack on speed sense of split second intensity that the UT series has offered since its first incarnation. The major blame should probably fall on analog sticks. They just don't work as well as a mouse for extremely quick 180's to rocket jumps to sniper rifle headshots. But in UT 3. the controls are extremely tight — they've clearly been given a lot of love. The razor responsive mechanics are in no way hindered by analog sticks. I don't know how that's possible — maybe we've just gotten more used to the controllers, maybe it's Epic ingenuity (and new adjustments like a rotary gun selection — but UT 3 has not been slowed down and I will not be playing it with a mouse, even with that option.
Of course, UT 3 wouldn't be part of the franchise without its trademark weapon set and the amount Epic tweaks the fan favorites can make or break a game *cough* lighting gun *cough*. My personal favorite has always been the flak cannon and it returns here with gusto. Regular fire can still kill baddies in one shot from close enough quarters, but the big difference is alternate fire. It's still an explosive grenade, but the shell seems less restricted by gravity. Still requiring trajectory calculations to strike your target, I was at one point able to bomb an enemy from...I dunno...pretty far away. After congratulating myself, I wondered how I even knew that was possible as this was my first time playing the new version." Read Both Articles, in the Ahead Links:
A New 'CVG' Preview of 'Unreal Tournament 3', is Available to Read, here:
Quote:
""Unreal 3's single-player campaign breaks with the linear mission convention that's typical of shooters, offering instead a choice of missions. "You'll be able to make decisions about which mission to do next", explains Morris. "You may decide to stem a Necris assault or try to opportunistically help your corporation gather territory instead. There'll be a detailed strategic global map, which will have branching choices as the campaign progresses.""
Reggie Fils-Aime: "Halo 3 Is Not A System Seller, Nothing New - Wii Has A Great Software Variety"'Nintendo's', Reggie Fils-Aime has Suggested that 'Halo 3' is Not a System Seller for XBox 360 but of course is Likely to Sell a Load of Software Units in itself. Reggie Thinks that Halo 3 is Being Targeted towards the same Demographic as the Likes of 'BioShock' and 'CrackDown', which are All just Similar Multiplayer possible FPS's Questioning "What's New" when it Comes to Halo 3. Reggie then Went on to Say Nintendo Feels No Need to Counter Halo 3 as they Have a Broad Portfolio of Games which are All Targeted toward Different Consumer Segments.
Quote:
"Q: There's been a lot of buzz about Microsoft's "Halo 3." How do you expect it to affect the console battle this holiday season ?
A: Will they sell a lot of software ? Certainly. Will it sell hardware ? I think it's an open question. Why ? Because I think that the "Halo 3" consumer already has the hardware, because they're playing "BioShock" and "Crackdown" and a variety of games that are, in the end, quite similar: first-person shooter experience, multiplayer capable online. Tell me what's new ? Q: So do you feel like you need to counter "Halo 3" in some way ? A: No. I am fortunate to have a series of (games) that are all going to drive substantial sales for me and are all targeted to different parts of the consumer mix." Read All, at 'Mercury News' :
Kazuo Hirai: "PlayStation 3 Price Point Was Perfect, Couldn't Supply Enough To Meet Demand"PlayStation Supremo, Kazuo Hirai, has Stated that the Original Price of the PlayStation 3 was Perfect which is Supported by the Belief 'Sony' Couldn't Supply Enough Units to Meet Demand in North American and Japan. Hirai Remarked that Initially it was Not a Pricing Issue it was just a Supply Issue and Fortunately for Europe Sony Improved their Supply Capacity.
Quote:
"SPOnG: Do you think the original PlayStation 3 price-point was a mistake ?
Kaz Hirai: No, I think the original price-point was the right price-point, evidenced by the issues we had at launch when we couldn’t supply enough units to consumers in the Japanese market and the North American market, and it was a huge challenge to try and meet that demand because of all the production issues we had. It wasn’t a pricing issue, it was a supply issue. Fortunately for the European launch, we were able to bring enough units to meet that demand, as well as supply a robust software launch. We had a lot more success in the European market because of the sheer number of hardware units as well as the software titles we were able to bring." Info from 'SPOnG' :

"During his SIGGRAPH Keynote, Glen Entis showed some Crysis gameplay as example of the future of realtime graphics in games. We also had a CryEngine2 piece in the Electronic Theater, which you can watch on our website. Last but not least, this year marked my tenth year working in the Guerilla Studio at SIGGRAPH. In the Animation Area we had some PCs where people of all ages could come in and animate animals from Crysis, then see them in CryEngine2. This lead to a lot of great collaborative stuff: from crabs walking around on their front claws, to breakdancing chickens."

'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl' To Move Definitely To Consoles ? + 2 New 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky" Shots RevealedFor those of you who've Played the PC Exclusive, 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl', you Might be Pleased to Know that the Crew at 'GSC Game World' is Considering a Console Version Release for the Game after its Initial Success.
Knowing the FPS Nature, as well as the Dark, Post Apocalyptic Theme, the Game would Definitely Look Pretty Sleek if it were Transferred onto a Next-Gen Console. GSC Project Manager, Anton Bolshakov Stated that they Wanted to Expand their Market with their Plans to Move to the Console. He Had this to Say on the Matter:
"PC game development is very traditional for ex-USSR and over 90 percent of gamers here play on PCs. However, we are pretty aware of the tendencies in the markets internationally and have been considering console development for a while."
While they Have No Definite Plans just yet, they Have Been Considering this Option for some Time Already. Whether or Not this will Push through for the Recent Game or its Sequel is still Unknown, it's also Unsure what Platform exactly we'll be Seeing their Debut on. Until they Have any more News on the Matter though, we'll just Have to Hang Tight and See what GSC has under its Sleeves regarding the Matter.

'CS Promod' Announces Its Release...Kinda ! **UPDATE**As we Inch towards the Release of the Open Beta, Coming in Less than a Week, the Team behind 'CSPromod' would Like to Provide some Lucky Members of the Community with the Early Opportunity to Test the Mod in the Coming Days.
There are No Strings Attached to this Offer; There's only One Rule: they'll only Start Giving out BETA Keys when the 'CSP' Community Page reaches 20,000: As Many of you May Have Observed by now, Earlier Today the CSP Steam Community Page was Deleted. We Don't Know Why and we're Trying to Find out more Details, but we Know that we Won't Let this Set us Back. So, we Ask that All of you, RE-JOIN the CSP Steam Community Group as Soon as Possible. Also, Please Post on this Thread in the Steam Forums in Support of CSP. So, to Summarize:
1) Re-Join the CSP Community Site (Link above)
2) Post on This Thread in the Steam forums 3) At 20,000 Members, Beta Keys Given Out UPDATE from the DEV Team for 'CS Promod' :
After a telephone discussion with VALVe's Patrick M., I'm happy to clarify the situation regarding CSP's Steam Community Page. To summarize, the deletion of the Steam Group was accidental on VALVe's part; they meant to delete a different "CSP Fan Club" group which was in violation of our logo copyright. We are told that Valve will NOT be able to restore the former user database of 15,500+ to the group; So, we ask that everyone continue to Re-Join the CSP Steam Community Group. So far, we have almost 2,000 members in just an hour !
Our promise to start issuing Closed Beta Copies at 20,000 members still stands. To clarify: THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE PUSHING BACK THE RELEASE DATE OF THE MOD. It simply means that if you all dedicate yourselves to populating the Steam Community Page, some of you could be playing CSProMod TONIGHT instead of a few days from now. Analyst: "No Clear Winner In This Console War"'Halo 3' has Finally Arrived and 'Microsoft' is Touting its Sales Success to Anyone who will Listen. However, One Group of Industry Watchers Doesn't Believe it will be Enough to Help Microsoft "Finish the Fight (in 1st)" against Rivals 'Sony' and 'Nintendo'.
'DFC Intelligence' has Released its Latest Forecast of the Industry. The Firm Suggested that this Round of Console Wars won't Have as Clear a Winner as in the Past, but that the Battle might Result in Microsoft clearly Bringing up the Rear.
"Under DFC's best-case scenario for the XBox 360, the system is in a virtual tie with both the Wii and the PlayStation 3", the Analysts Wrote. "However, unless the XBox 360 can kick it into gear in the fourth quarter and through 2008, the system will probably finish in a fairly distant third. A big challenge for the XBox 360 is building a base outside North America."
As for Who will Win the Console Race, DFC said the Wii "could be" the Overall Winner, but also Predicted that the PlayStation 3 will Hit its Stride in 2009 and Could Finish "a strong second". The Firm said that Sony Might even Bring in More Software Sales than Nintendo by 2012, even if its Installed Userbase Isn't as Big.
According to DFC, the Lack of a Single Dominant System in the Industry Isn't just a Matter of Nintendo and Microsoft Doing a Better Job of Combating Sony with the Wii and XBox 360 than they Did with the GameCube and XBox, respectively.
The Analysts Believe that the Gaming Arena Outside of Consoles is also Growing and as a Result will Keep any of the Systems from Achieving PlayStation 2-Like Dominance. According to the Firm, PS2 Software accounted for 30% of the Entire Gaming Industry in 2004. For Comparison, DFC is Predicting that Even the Best-Performing Console between 2010 and 2012 will at most Account for 15% of the Overall Industry.
"One of the fastest-growing segments of the interactive entertainment market is actually PC games", DFC's Report Noted, a Fact that Points to the Platform as an Ideal Place for Developers to Try out New Genres and Business Models. "The PC game business is expected to grow over 80 percent over the next five years."

Europe's, 'Nintendo' Wii 'Virtual Console' UpdatedHere's the PRESS RELEASE for this Announcement from 'Nintendo', below:
PRESS RELEASE
28th September, 2007- As the “Hanabi Festival” on the Virtual Console draws to a close, Nintendo is having a blast releasing a pair of action packed games which have previously never been released in Europe: Sin And Punishment and Gradius III.
First on the list this week is Sin And Punishment, the classic Nintendo 64 3D third-person shooter game, developed by Treasure Co. Ltd. Originally released in 2000, this non-stop action title will see you assuming the role of a young resistance fighter facing an onslaught of bio-genetic monsters called Ruffians. These monsters, originally bred to boost dwindling food stocks on Earth, have turned against their creators and are trying to take over ! In order to save the planet players must battle their way across land, sea and skies collecting energy, time and point bonuses as they go. A cool head and a strong trigger finger are essential to defeating the hordes of enemies that stand between our hero and victory ! To enable players to better enjoy this cult Japanese classic, some in-game text has been translated into English, especially for this Hanabi Festival release. Sin And Punishment can be yours to download now for 1200 Wii Points. Next, buckle up and prepare for battle in Konami’s much-loved 1990 side-scrolling shooter Gradius III. Players seize control of their Vic Viper Starfighter and take on the armadas of the Bacterion Empire. With ten levels to fight through, players will have their work cut out for them! With a variety of different weapons at your disposal you can mix and match lasers, missiles and shields to create customised set-ups giving you a fighting chance. This Super Nintendo Entertainment System version, originally released in the U.S., comes to Europe for the first time and is available now for 900 Wii Points. If you want to try something a little magical, then Legend of Hero Tonma is this week’s non “Hanabi Festival” offering. In this platform shooter, players assume the role of Tonma, a trainee magician who must rescue a princess from prison, using magic spells to battle giant bosses and work their way through seven stages riddled with treasure chests and unusual power-ups! Legend of Hero Tonma is available now for 600 Wii Points. For those of you who haven’t yet got your hands on the epic Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, it will only be available on Virtual Console up to and including 30th September 2007. So make sure you don’t miss out and download it now ! With the addition of new games never seen before in Europe released over the “Hanabi Festival”, Virtual Console offers users the ultimate retro gaming experience. This weeks titles join the list of 141 classic titles already available for Virtual Console in Europe. 'Halo 3' Not In HD - ConfirmedFor the Past few Days, it has Been Discussed across the Internet that 'Halo 3' May Not Exactly be Rendered in High Definition. 'Bungie' has Come out with a Statement on their Official Site Confirming this.
Big Quote:
"You Owe me 80p !
One item making the interwebs rounds this week was the scandalous revelation that Halo 3 runs at “640p” which isn’t even technically a resolution. However, the interweb detectives did notice that Halo 3’s vertical resolution, when captured from a frame buffer, is indeed 640 pixels. So what gives ? Did we short change you 80 pixels ?
Naturally it’s more complicated than that. In fact, you could argue we gave you 1280 pixels of vertical resolution, since Halo 3 uses not one, but two frame buffers – both of which render at 1152x640 pixels. The reason we chose this slightly unorthodox resolution and this very complex use of two buffers is simple enough to see – lighting. We wanted to preserve as much dynamic range as possible – so we use one for the high dynamic range and one for the low dynamic range values. Both are combined to create the finished on screen image.
This ability to display a full range of HDR, combined with our advanced lighting, material and postprocessing engine, gives our scenes, large and small, a compelling, convincing and ultimately “real” feeling, and at a steady and smooth frame rate, which in the end was far more important to us than the ability to display a few extra pixels. Making this decision simpler still is the fact that the 360 scales the “almost-720p” image effortlessly all the way up to 1080p if you so desire.
In fact, if you do a comparison shot between the native 1152x640 image and the scaled 1280x720, it’s practically impossible to discern the difference. We would ignore it entirely were it not for the internet’s propensity for drama where none exists. In fact the reason we haven’t mentioned this before in weekly updates, is the simple fact that it would have distracted conversation away from more important aspects of the game, and given tinfoil hats some new gristle to chew on as they catalogued their toenail clippings."
